Description: House One editor and DIY expert Jenn Largesse demonstrates how to make a wall-hung planter using vinyl plank flooring and a piece of plywood. #ThisOldHouse #AskTOH SUBSCRIBE to This Old House: bit.ly/SubscribeThisOldHouse After turning my basement storage room into a modern home gym [thisoldhouse.com/e/22658291] we needed a pop of color for the walls. I opted to build a DIY wood plank wall planter with a faux snake plant to match the room’s sleek design. For steps go to the This Old House website [thisoldhouse.com/e/22679403]. Cut list ½" Plywood Backer Board – 60" W x 25 ½" H 1 x 4 Cleat – 1 @ 24" Ripped in half at a 45-degree bevel ¼" x 5" Wood Planks – About 11 sq feet (or enough to cover the plywood backer) 1 x 4 Planter Base – 1 @ 60” ¼” x 5 ½” Planter (Front) – 1 @ 60 ½” ¼” x 5 ½” Planter (Sides) – 2 @ 4” ¼” x 1 ¼” Trim (Top) – 1 @ 60 ½” ¼” x 1 ¼” Trim (Sides) – 2 @ 20” Materials Note: I used almost all leftover materials for this project except for the faux stems and foam blocks to hold them. If you're starting from scratch, consider sizing the planter down to accommodate a 2'x4' plywood project panel or using a standard 1x6 board for the face of the planter, so you don't have to purchase a full sheets plywood. ½" x 4' x 8' plywood [thd.co/3L7nCyj ] to create the backer board ¼" x 4' x 8' plywood [thd.co/3gjAqn5] to make the face and sides of the planter 1 x 4 x 8' board [thd.co/3umkQiO] to create the planter base and cleat 1 ¼" wood screws [amzn.to/3Gr8XdM] to attach the base of the planter and 5/8" pin nails [amzn.to/3B9pbHP] Wood glue [amzn.to/32Y7hek] Paint brush [amzn.to/3uogvMj] Paint in Sherwin-Williams Tricorn Black [bit.ly/330oLXy] ¼" x 1 ¼" trim molding [thd.co/32Uf1xO] to conceal the edges Wood planks [bit.ly/3gj6ms3] Floral foam blocks [amzn.to/3Gwhoow] (3) faux snake plant stems [amzn.to/3gjnttt] Moss to cover the foam blocks [amzn.to/3omNdtx] Tools Circular saw [amzn.to/3gj8DDo] Miter saw [amzn.to/3L0kO6a] Pneumatic pin nailer [amzn.to/3op5Ay5] Drill/driver [amzn.to/3uovwh9] Paint brush [amzn.to/347IOUx] Looking for more step by step guidance on how to complete projects around the house?
